You've got 2 minutes to clear out some Bee Mines. How many can you get?

Controls

Gamepad support is built in, but doesn't seem to work on itch.io's web version for some reason, at least for me.

Move with the arrow keys or WASD, D-Pad, or the thumbsticks.

Jump with spacebar, or with the top or bottom face button on a gamepad.

Attack with x, z, <, >, either left or right mouse button, or the side face buttons on a gamepad. These are not different attacks, just multiple buttons for the same attack.

Run by holding shift, or the shoulder buttons or triggers on a gamepad.

Enter or escape will bring up the pause menu.

Scoring

You get 3 points for felling a bee mine. If you fell them in quick succession, this number goes up.

You lose 2 points for getting hit, or 7 if the hit fells you. In addition, you lose a point for every 6 seconds you had left on the timer when you die.

Future Plans

This minigame was created as a proof of concept, to test the controls, the art style, and the idea of making full-on adventure games centered on this sort of platforming and combat. As such, while I will be reading the comments, taking them under advisement, and using them to improve the code and the art, I largely won't be bringing those improvements back to this game. They will be moved forward to the next game.

However, this was made in Godot 4.2, and Godot 4.3 is supposed to fix some issues with web games and Mac, so when it releases, I will aim to release an updated version. And I think control customization is a fundamental feature for every modern game, so when I get that built, I will try to back-port it into this.

I had originally planned to include a short comic/cutscene telling a story of why the beetle is fighting bees, but I cut it due to time constraints. If the whim takes me, and I find the time, I will add that here also. But I do not plan on it.

Cheers!

In case you need some more encouragement, I shared ayqua-1 on a discord server i spend time on and a user there tried it out and said this:
After playing, it i cant wait to see more! The art style is great, the animations are pretty fluid, and gave me lots of nostalgia playing platformers like fancy pants and sonic as a kid :ravedance: :sonic: I wish your friend the best on his project!

i wrote some notes while testing the game out. idk if it will be useful or just noise, but I wrote anything and everything that came to mind while i tried it out.

Overall, I like it. I always like your art style, and I think with a little bit of tweaking the system you have here could be a very good base for a bigger game. Looking forward to how Ayqua develops!

I think these notes are very helpful, actually. Some of them refer to issues I already have on my docket to fix for the next game, and some is difficult-to-escape browser quirks, but there's a lot here I think I can fruitfully keep in mind.
